Megabits per second (Mbit / s), kilobits per second (kbit / s)

These units indicate the theoretical speed of data transfer between the Internet and your computer. They correspond to the number of information units (bits) transferred per second, measured in thousands (Kbit / s) or millions (Mbit / s).

Transfer capability

Transfer capacity is the maximum amount of data that your Internet access you can transfer each month (from the Internet to your computer), upstream (from your computer to the Internet) or together (in both directions) . This capacity is measured in billions of bytes (GB).

Gigabyte (GB)

The ability to transfer your Internet access is measured in gigabytes. One gigabyte (gigabyte in English) is a storage capacity of one billion bytes, or more precisely 1 024 megabytes (megabytes in English).
Upstream and downstream

Transfer "downstream" is made from the Internet to your computer (when you browse the Web or download a file, for example). It also uses the term "download" (download).

Transfer "upstream" is done from your computer to the Internet (when you send an email, for example). It also uses the term "upload" (upload).
